VFX for Amazon
Goodbye Kansas Studios has delivered Visual Effects for Amazon’s new feature film “Birds of Paradise”
Goodbye Kansas Studios was the primary VFX vendor for the production and the team was led by VFX Supervisor Jason M. Halverson and VFX Producer Paula Pope, in collaboration with Studio OMZ.
The film is an adaptation of the novel Bright Burning Stars by A.K. Small, a story about two dancers at an elite ballet academy in Paris who find their friendship tested when they compete for a contract to join the Opéra National de Paris. The film was mainly shot on location in Budapest and the effects included set extensions (transforming Budapest into Paris), visually stunning glitter effects for dance sequences and innovative psychedelic effects for a “hallucinogenic trip” sequence.
“Some of the most visually layered sequences in the film were led by Goodbye Kansas in collaboration with Studio OMZ,” said Sarah Adina Smith, the film’s director. “I tend to be pretty particular about VFX, so I felt lucky to have Jason Halverson and his team on board. They were always down to keep pushing the quality further and never broke a sweat.”
The film premiered on Amazon Prime September 24th 2021.
