Overkill’s The Walking Dead: Maya

In the second character trailer for the upcoming Starbreeze game ”Overkill’s The Walking Dead” we are introduced to Maya. Once upon a time she used to work at a hospital. She was engaged to David. They had plans. They were happy.

But that was before the outbreak. Before the world was plunged into chaos. The old world is dead and the life she once knew is gone. Only the memories prevail, but those memories fade away day by day. All but one: the memory of how it all started. The chaos. The horror. And the choice no-one ever should have to make. The most horrible day of her life. And still just a first taste of her new reality, her new life in a world without hope.

Director Andrée Wallin and the Goodbye Kansas teams in Uppsala and Stockholm worked closely with Starbreeze to create this film, and we pushed ourselves further than ever – both artistically and technically – to create a reality that feels both intense and unsettling, both sombre and dramatic. A world where no-one is safe and horror awaits you wherever you look.

The Trailer was nominated for Best Animation in a Commercial at the VES Awards 2019, and the process of creating Maya is featured at a special booth at the exposition “Play beyond Play” at the National Museum of Science and Technology in Stockholm.
